The seven best wines of the Canary Islands for less than 20 euros

The newspaper La Vanguardia has published a special report that makes a selection of the best Canarian wines for less than 20 euros. Our Viñatigo Elaboraciones Ancestrales Blanco 2017 heads this selection, demonstrating the high quality-price ratio of our elaborations.

We reproduce the full article, but not without first congratulating the rest of the wineries that show every day that quality Canarian wines are a reality that goes beyond our borders, creating a trend in the sector worldwide and recovering its historical fame day by day.

La Vanguardia.- 08/06/2019

Everything on the islands is special and makes their wines unique. From the absence of phylloxera, which found an insurmountable wall in its volcanic soils, to those unique places where beaches, forests and volcanoes mix, something that is reflected in the versatility of its wines.

Viñatigo White Ancestral Elaborations 2017

Canary Islands PDO - Tenerife; Viñátigo winery VARIETIES OF GRAPES: GUAL 18 Euros

Sitting on volcanic soil, we find this delicious white, where raisins, dried apricots, rosemary and angel hair stand out. Its fermentation with the skins gives it structure in the mouth, with a freshness and pleasant bitterness that compensate for that sweet sensation.

Los Loros Fermented in Barrel 2018

DO: Valle de Güímar, Tenerife; El Borujo winery VARIETIES OF GRAPES: ALBILLO CRIOLLO 20 euros Intense white wine with a suggestive nose where citrus notes, tropical fruits, aromatic herbs and dried flowers give it complexity. The mouth shows a great balance with hints of quince and a sweet finish. It will improve in the bottle.

La Batista 2016

DO: La Palma; Llanos Negros VARIETIES OF GRAPES; AROMATIC MALVASIA 15 euros A particular and very interesting white wine because it is a dry Malvasia that enjoys an Atlantic influence. It ferments in 500-liter oak, subsequently spending months on its lees. All this gives it aromas of ripe white fruit and dried flowers, but with an unctuous and refreshing mouth.

Viña Amable Tinto 2017

DO: Gran Canaria; Vega de Gáldar Winery VARIETIES OF GRAPES; BLACK LISTAN, SPANISH 35 euros

Sapid and corpulent red wine with good intensity in aromas, highlights the notes of red fruit, cherry, earthy, leaves and spices. Palate with noble tannins yet to be polished and long-lasting.

Vulcano Tinto De Lanzarote 2017

DO: Lanzarote; Vulcano winery GRAPES VARIETIES; BLACK LISTAN 18 euros In this vineyard in the centre of Lanzarote, the vine is grown in a classic way, that is, in an inverted cone and covered by volcanic sand, protecting it from the wind. A fruity, mineral red wine is obtained, with toasted notes and more elegant than corpulent. Its mouth is tasty and its finish is even balsamic.

7 Sources 2015

DO: Orotava Valley, Tenerife; Luck of the Marquis VARIETIES OF GRAPES; INK, BLACK STRIP 15 euros

7 Fuentes is a wine that reflects its origin very well in the glass: generous in red fruit, wild berries, mineral and spicy. Its mouth is wide and enveloping but not very tannic. Mineral finish.

El Grifo Semisweet Collection 2018

DO: Lanzarote; Bodegas El Grifo VARIETIES OF GRAPES; MALVASIA 15 euros
