The Epic Wines of the Canary Islands

This week, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands, through its affiliated company Gestión del Medio Rural de Canarias (GMR), has presented The Epic Wines of the Canary Islands, a guide in English on the Canarian wines, which is part of the new strategy of the Canary Islands Government to associate local products with the image of the Canary Islands as a tourist destination of high landscape and environmental value, promoting a range of products that contribute to promoting a sustainable development model.

Its writer, the doctor in Earth Sciences from the University of Oxford, Santo Bains, aims to convey to the Anglo-Saxon public the excellence and passion of viticulture in the Canary Islands as one of the most surprising and unique regions in the world.

The entire Bodegas Viñátigo team, headed by our director Juan Jesús Méndez, has actively collaborated with the author in the preparation of the work, providing various graphic material and making contributions and corrections to the final document.

The work contains 11 regional chapters where the 18 most important grape varieties of the Canary Islands are described in detail.

In addition to explaining the peculiarities of the 11 appellations of origin and the 18 most important varieties, Santo Bains tells the personal story and the experience behind each winery or vineyard.

Santo Bains aspires to become a Master of Wine (MW) after recently achieving the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 3 Wines certification with distinction.

Immerse yourself in this journey through the exceptional wine regions of our Canary Islands.
